Steel Mag

"Here is a nice horse that I can sell inexpensively simply because I bought her right and therefore will sell her right! As you can see she is a beautiful solid, coal black mare. "Registered", coal black mare! She was ridden by a young lady most of her life. Done some fun shows with her and put many miles on her covering trails. Guess you can say a been-there-done-that kinda gal! She handles the Sangre de Cristo Mountains of northern New Mexico very well indeed. Priced beyond right!

Springtime in Colorado

"Springtime in Colorado, is this magnificent young horses registered name. Around here we just call him Springtime. Ever seen markings like this? Dark Buckskin would be his base color with four white speckled socks and a few white spots on his body and neck. Springtime was turned out into a large mountain pasture which was very rocky. His feet are hard as rocks and trimmed by Nature. Springtime has not been saddled yet. He is being socialized here at Twin Ponds and coming along wonderfully. He has figured out that folks around these parts are pretty nice and scratch and groom him plus bring him plenty of good food! Springtime is in my opinion going to be a solid 15.1 or bigger and a wonderful companion for some lucky person. At Trail Horses of the West, our operations is selling finished trail horses and as I stated before, Springtime is not finished yet. If you want the flashiest horse in your State and have time to work with a horse.....here is a very good deal!

Star Masterpiece

"A plum beginners horse! Yes, believe it or not this stunningly gorgeous filly can be ridden by anybody. Temperament is everything and Boy-Oh-Boy, does she have a wonderful temperament. Looks? Oh MY.......four white stocking to her knees and beyond. A white blaze to go along with her pure white mane and tail, and several white spots and a streak of white going up one hip. Why, she has more chrome on her than a '59 Buick Electra! Now this may not be politically correct to say but, "Take a look at the butt on this blonde!!!! Broad and beautiful! Ya just can't help but love the whole package-----temperament, gait, color and confirmation! If you can find me more like her, I'll take a 100! Some of the photos posted of her are on the trail in the mountains.....she is ready to go! A Masterpiece for sure!

Cream

" A few weeks back I was invited to be a guest on the El Paso Texas Sherriff Posse's Annual Spring Ride. There were thirty nine riders present for a three day ride near Chama, New Mexico. I chose to bring and ride Cream on this trip for a variety of reasons. The main reason, I love to ride this fun horse. Before I tell you more let me say Cream is not a beginners horse. There is not a mean bone in his body. He stands perfect to get on and off from and has never offered to do anything I deem as dangerous. What he does have is an incredible running walk. A confident rider would enjoy him tremendously, I'm sure. I envision an endurance rider just loving this horse to pieces. Getting back to this three day ride, Cream was a perfect gentlemen. Horses were a times head to tail. There were multiple deep water crossings and encounters with Antelope, Mule Deer, Porcupines and Elk. Never once did Cream act stupid. On the third day a group of us broke off to do a longer ride than the rest. An old trail leading up to an abandoned cabin took us across a very deep, fast moving stream and then up a series of switchbacks. A large tree had fallen over the steepest part of the switchbacks requiring the rides to take a detour off the trail and over an even steeper incline. Two of the horses attempting to traverse the detour went over backwards resulting in one rider going to the Emergency Room with a dislocated shoulder. Cream and I went up the steep switchbacks without a hitch and I rode him back down the switchbacks on the way back even when most other riders got off and walked down. I tell you all of this to illustrate my confidence in the horse. Cream is extremely surefooted and dependable. On two different occasions when we came to a big wide open valleys, I said Adios to my riding partners and put Cream into his running walk. Within minutes a turned around in the saddle to see my group just little specs on the far side of the valley. I have no question in my mind that Cream can do over twenty miles per hour in his running walk and do it for hours and a time! He has a smooth transition from his running walk into a great cantor! (Eye Goggles recommended) As I said earlier, this horse isn't for everybody but for the right person, this Cream is a Dream!"

Hollywood

"Hollywood may imply a rather cocky or arrogant movie star type. This Hollywood is not arrogant but more of an easy going guy---gentle! I'll tell ya another thing about this nice gelding-------he is smooooooth! Great with other horses---a plum joy to ride! Been ridden down the trail and on busy roads. In a few photos posted of Hollywood, you will see a young man in a black helmet riding him. This eleven year old boy came to Twin Ponds Ranch with his mother and sister who were looking for a horse and found one too. On two separate days, this handsome young fella and Hollywood rode the trails on and around the ranch. On one of those days they completed four hours of riding together! If you know me, you'll know that I don't put people on a horse they can't safely ride and you certainly know that a mother isn't going to allow her son to be on anything that isn't totally safe! The whole idea of Trail Horses of The West is to get dependable and enjoyable horses in the hands of our customers. Hollywood.....dependable and enjoyable indeed!"

Moon Beam

"Well, if you look at her face you can understand how she got her name. Unique markings on this black four white socks mare. But the best part about her is her gait............Oh My! If you are looking for that ultimate smoothness, here ya go! This nice looking mare gets along with other horses marvelously. I have never seen a bad day that some mares can have. Discounting her because she is a mare would be a big mistake in my opinion. If she doesn't get sold quickly you'll see me a riding her for sure. (Check site for photos) This is a really good horse that someone can have for the next twenty plus years. If you are a bargain shopper, you have found one here............Moon Beam!"

Kentucky Mountain, Spottedd Mountain, Rocky Mountain Horses For Sale in Colorado...

Prince

"A few weeks back I had posted another chocolate Rocky Mountain gelding much similar to Prince. His name was Toby and a very nice couple from Colorado Springs came down and saw exactly what I was talking about and bought him. I can tell you that they love Toby and he is being ridden every week and will be going elk hunting in the mountains this Fall. Now Prince is older than Toby and more advanced as far as experience goes but I do tell....I like the disposition or temperament of this guy. Here is another tall Rocky Mountain who very well could hit sixteen hands. Prince has always been just that---a Prince! Yes, a few more miles and another birthday and you've got yourself a $7,500 horse. A very, very good looking three year old that has his Breeding Certificate in his folder. I am going to sell him for $4,800 and if you want him registered you can send in the form. Deal? Priced right and you'll get more than you paid for!"

Willy

He's 15.1 hands and Willy is his name - sweet, kind, extremely handsome Rocky Mountain is his game. As you can see from the videos he tucks his head so very stylishly and hits a wonderful smooth gait. Just a nice horse to ride and be around. Everyone who has come to the ranch has remarked what a fine looking fellow he is. I have owned two other Willy's in my career and never had a bad one. This Willy is no exception. There is no doubt in my mind that who ever buys this attractive guy is going to be bragging about him for a long-long time. I'll have a few more photos posted of Willy high in the mountains within a few days. Here is a Rocky Mountain priced right---well worth the $!"

Choc Mania's Royal Heir

Choc Mania's Royal Heir is her registered name . As you can see from the attached photos, she now has a very good-looking stud colt on her side that I call Skeeter. I am not anxious to sell this colt cuz he is going to be a big, tall fellow and I'm itching to throw a leg over this colt some day in the future! The real story for the moment is Royal Heir. If you watch the video you'll see a perfect four beat gait! Now that is smooth! Yes, she is now fourteen years old but examine the facts. Rockys achieve longevity, many famous Rockys have lived past their mid-thirties. This well-bred gal has many more years of pleasure to share with her new owner. You want a horse that has been there and done that? One with a whole head full of sense? I get inquiries every day from potential customers, saying they can't afford to hit the ground anymore (I never thought you should in the first place!) and now that they have a bad back, they must have a horse that is ultra smooth! Well, problem solved----Choco Mania's Royal Heir! If you are, or want to be, a breeder of this fine popular breed, you should look hard at this mare. Proven producer of great foals as well as a big mare with miles of trail experience. There is demand for larger sized Rockys! Registered AND Certified to breed....ROCKY MOUNTAIN SADDLE HORSE ASSOCIATION.

Diablo

"If you like to looks of Paints or what we call in the gaited world, Spotted, you gotta love this fine-fine gelding. Man-Oh-Man, does he ever ride nice! One thing I enjoy is folks that will call a 14.3 hand high horse, small and a 15.1 hand high horse, tall. According to my measurement stick, that is only two inches at the withers difference. I certainly wouldn't call Diablo a big or tall horse but I wouldn't call him small either. Very good bone and muscle coupled with amazing stamina.....he is in shape and loves to be trail ridden. On a trail ride today in the mountains near the ranch, two big coyotes followed Diablo and another horse called Raven. Perhaps they were abnormally hungry and hoping to grab one of our two dogs. Finally, Paul took out his 22 cal. pistol and fired a shot. Neither Diablo nor Raven reacted to the shot.  Diablo comes from the heart of the Mountain Horse country and there is no doubt in my mind he is a full-blooded Mountain Horse. He is currently not registered but he certainly can be registered in the Spotted Mountain Horse Association if that is important. Please remember, he is a gelding. Well, I am telling you this is a very nice horse. Easy to get on and easy to get off. Diablo!

Peanut

"Dependable, sure footed and miles under saddle may well best describe Peanut. Don't ya just love his name? No, he isn't the perfect size for every rider but he'll fit a smaller persons bill to a Tee! As you can see from the photos he can easily carry an average size man. This super great looking horse has the gait to match! Can be ridden with any kind of horses, will move if you want to ride with others that like to roll on! Peanut--a real honest to goodness Rocky Mountain Saddle Horse!

Rondo

"As you look through these photos posted on Rondo, you'll see a very healthy, good-boned Rocky Mountain Horse gelding. White mane and tail that will only get longer and fuller as time goes on. The thing I like most about this handsome young fellow is his natural gait. With the interest in this Rocky Mountain breed, there are some trotty and pacy horses coming onto the market. Not Rondo! Everything is in place for this horse to be the best of his breed. He was started right (never offered to buck) and well cared for. Rondo comes from very good bloodlines. I expect him to mature to at least 15.1 hands. Well, there ya have it. If you want to get into these chocolate-white mane and tail Rockys you better make the jump now! You won't find better quality at a better price. Rondo!

Pete

"Pete reminds me a great deal of a black and white tobiano I had here last Fall. That horses name was Cimarron, and I said at the time I wrote the description of him that the first person who came along and rode him, would buy him. Well, two very good clients from Glade Park, Colorado and now friends came back for a second horse and like I said they bought Cimarron immediately after riding him. You can view Cimarron on my Home Page photo posted at the top of a group of us riding in the Canyonlands of Southern Utah last April. Cimarron is the horse on the far left in the photo. This Pete horse is just like Cimarron but a year older. Extremely smooth gaited, AND will go in any direction or place you care to point him. Yes, Pete is lit up like a Christmas Tree! 70 percent palomino and 30% white....gorgeous! Couple that with that perfect 4-beat gait and ya got something people will wish they had! Watch and listen to the video. If you can hear the audio, you'll hear the rhythm of that perfect gait. OK, I am telling you this guy is as good as they come! He'll bond with his new owner quickly. Dream Horse! For Pete's sake, come try him out!

Buckshot

Most folks recognize this great looking horse with a long mane and fully tail, as the Mountain Horse breed. Yep, registered and certified Rocky Mountain. Buckshot is an easy horse to get along with and handle. I have had children ride him on the trail. The Mountain Horse breed is also known for their wonderful willing or cooperative attitude. Buckshot is no exception. If you study the photos and short video, you can see the perfect and smooth gait. His color is beyond attractive…..very unique! Coming six years old and hundreds of miles of trail experience, I can assure you there are not many like him around. Come ride him on and around the trails of Twin Ponds Ranch. There is no place that can show you better the conditions really needed to evaluate a new riding partner. A very special kind of horse!

Babydoll

On the night of April 16th, on a cold night that left 4 inches of hail on the ground, Little Santana was born! Yes indeed, I could and should have been a better mid-wife and had Babydoll in the barn but nature came unexpectedly. A healthier stud colt you will not find! Tall and already muscular----Santana I predict will be a big horse! Santana's mother, Babydoll, has the right name. Pretty much everything about this mare is right! This gal has heart, she'll kept right up with other horses moving right on out. She'll also walk right on down too! As you can see from the video, she has a nice little saddle gait, no fast running walk, just a nice little saddle gait. Babydoll doesn't look at a thing----goes where ya point her. In one of the photos attached, you can see a small child riding her in an English saddle. In addition to being a pleasure/trail horse, she has also been shown in some small horse shows which only adds to her experiences. She has outstanding breeding as she comes out of the Clemon's Tim bloodline. She should be able to be registered in the Rocky Mountain Horse Association as well as the Kentucky Mountain Saddle Horse Association she is registered in now. Babydoll is certainly big enough to carry a adult person. Babydoll & Santana-----the pair for only $4,000!"

Yellowstone

"Here is another wonderful pleasure/trail horse. The past couple of years Yellowstone has been living in Corrales, New Mexico. This nice community is along the Rio Grande and the beauty and trails are shared by many types of outdoor enthusiast. Horses and riders must cross busy streets, go past barking dogs and encounter jogger, walkers and children at play. Yes indeed this makes for some great experience. Now the only reason you are seeing Yellowstone on this website is he was pastured with goats and sheep. Seems that Yellowstone was fascinated by these smaller creature and like to herd them around. Please don't read anything into this but Yellowstone never hurt these goats and sheep, just liked following them around. Hard to eat a skinny lamb chop! So, Yellowstone's owner traded Yellowstone in on Oreo and Destin. I doubt many horse owners share their pastures with sheep and goats so I don't see this as a big problem. Here is another point I think a potential buyer will find interesting---I personally have been riding this fine gelding on several trail rides. I really enjoy this horse and can say without a doubt in my mind he is as safe and enjoyable horse to ride as you will ever find! Very smooth gait and extremely well mannered. Registered Missouri Fox Trotter.
